Lamai Beach Samui

Our Story

The original Lamai camp was established in the late 80’s as a boxing and weights gym up until 1998, when it opened as one of the first MUAYTHAI resort camps in the world.

A group of likeminded westerners passionate about Muay Thai looked at giving back to the motherland of Muay Thai on the beautiful island Koh Samui. The Camp has had the backing of the authoritative MUAYTHAI world governing body, the World Muay Thai Council (WMC), established under the directive of the Thai Government in 1995 with over 150 countries as part of the organisation.

Ralph Beale from the UK one of the founders has now made Koh Samui his home, after years of work and development in Muay Thai in the UK and Europe, from training his students and Fighters at his UK based gym to growing the national federation with the joint visions of the WMC and IFMA to Now call Muay Thai an Olympic recognised sport.

The true benefit is seeing people new to the sport grow the passion that helps shape and change direction in their life, starting a journey to a healthy mind and body that Muay Thai offers.

World Muay Thai Council Certification Since 1998

The WMC is the authoritative body for regulating Muaythai, both in Thailand and around the world. Set up by parliament resolution, the WMC is incorporated by the Royal Thai Government and sanctioned by the Sports Authority of Thailand, working together with the highest sport authorities of all member countries around the world to regulate all aspects of the art and sport of Muaythai. The inauguration meeting was held in 1995 at an appropriate venue, the United Nation Conference Centre with representatives from 39 countries attended. Presently there are 120 member countries registered with the WMC. The Executive Board and various committees ranging from technical and rules, refereeing and judging, medical, finance, youth, women, press and public relations, business and legal; all were democratically elected.

Camp Hall Of Fame

Valentina Shevchenko

Valentina Shevchenko for the last 10 years has been a visitor and fighter in Lamai Koh Samui. Training on camp during her Muay Thai Career, her self, coach Pavel Fedotov and her sister Antonina who is still in this years IFMA world championships have a great relationship with our trainers and head coach Nong supporting them in the IFMA world championships over the last decade ! Shevchenko has held several kickboxing and muay thai titles, such as the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur World Championships and World Muaythai Council and been highly regarded as one of the best female Muay Thai fighters in the world. IFMA World Championships Gold (2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015)

Pidsanu 'Mardusa' Kunchat,

Often only going by his fight name, Pidsanu Kunchat, is better known as ‘Mardsua’, a name synonymous with “great” and “champion” within Muaythai circles, as a result of his achievements. It also means “tiger punch” in Thai – tigers being a highly respected animal in the Siam lands. Mardsua earned this name by demonstrating strength and courage throughout his fights. He also made a name for himself by defeating top Australian fighter John Wayne Parr, and by losing very narrowly to Yodsanklai.

Dzhabar Askerov

Dzhabar Askerov is a Russian Welterweight kickboxer fighting out of Bangkok, Thailand and representing Russia. He is the World Muay Thai Council’s Muay Thai Welterweight European Champion and K-1 MAX Scandinavia 2008 Tournament Finalist.

Nokweed Davy

Despite 312 bouts and his fearsome reputation in the ring, Nokweed Davy remained a strong silent type who never really talked about himself, nor less boasted. Kevin Siam, the stalwart Muay Thai correspondent for Siam Fight News, remembers him as much. Nokweed never asked for anything off anyone, never looked for money and didn’t like to share his boxing stories. He was shy of his fame but he loved his boys at the WMC gym who, like him, had a passion for Muay Thai. He was a man of few words. But, once the sweat in the gym started to spill onto the concrete, he was a beast with his fighters.

Camp Philosophy

At Lamai Muay Thai Camp we believe in Family. We create the best atmosphere for our campers to train and attain personal success no matter your goals. From a “first timer” to a seasoned professional fighter, our camp provides the environment for all to learn Muay Thai and be part of our close knit Community. We find once you come, you always come back to be part of our family for a lifetime.

Trained at Lamai Muay Thai for 2 weeks with our home gym, very friendly and welcoming gym. Trainers were excellent, they take the time to help you gain a better understanding. Done both the group and 1 on 1 sessions. Ralph (the owner) is helpful in every way, nothing is too much, loads of respect for the gym ♥️

Did a 1:1 with Kru Vorn and left satisfied. Pure technical class, he pointed out mistakes and fixes for my technique and also taught me new stuff, all within an hour. Definitely recommended, book your slot in advance as they trend to run out pretty quickly

I trained at Lamai for two weeks with my home gym. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I learnt so much from the team. The facility and the trainers were amazing. It’s an unforgettable experience and will definitely not be the last time I go there! Thanks so much to Ralph for being so accommodating during our stay!

I was really looking forward to my PT session but was very disappointed. My trainer was 10 min late, one of the British fighter kindly helped me to locate him. The session was ok but I couldn’t really understand his instructions and it was short. I didn’t feel like I worked out at all.The gym seems very popular with all ages and seems like a good, friendly and inclusive gym but this left a sour taste for me so won’t be going back.Be prepared for smell, sweat. Definitely for the hard core 😂

I had a personal training session with Ton at 9 in the morning. It was either a coincidence or the training was a perfect fit for me, after the warm-up.I felt valued at all times, he took my mistakes with humor and corrected them immediately. A respectful and great place.

1 of the best Fighter Gym in Thailand so far. I stayed this camp for 3 years and had 16 fights under WMC Lamai Muaythai name. I tried many many gyms in all over Thailand and not even 1 of them is not close to training vibes in Lamai Muaythai. Boss Ralph all day there for any problem you people have. Big part of my life, thank you for any moment i had here.

This was unfortunately one of my worst gym experiences in Thailand so far. I have years of experience from training and fighting and have previously lived in Chiang Mai.This is a repost of this review since I was told that I could get arrested if I said anything ”bad” about a Thai company even if it’s the truth.Anyways this is my experience. In sparring there was a guy that swept my leg so hard (in play sparring) I got a serious ACL knee injury which has been confirmed (the owner questioned the seriousness of my injury as well). When the injury happened I didn’t feel like the staff took it serious enough or asked me if I needed any help to get to the hospital. My boyfriend found me outside crying by myself when he got there. Also when I was at the reception cause I had to leave the girl in the reception saw me crying and laughed and didn’t ask how I was or anything. When it comes to the actual training it’s the same workout everyday which consists of warmup for 20+ min then partnered drills and sparring for almost the whole class and then only two short rounds of pad work. In general there was no feedback or attention to detail.I will not recommend this place. Mostly because of the lack of servicemindedness and for basically trying to talk me in to removing my honest review.

Been coming to Lamai Muay Thai to train for many years, it has increasingly become the place to train in Samui for real fighters including champions like J Haggerty and many more, some of the best trainers in the game, accomplished actors and also just people beginning to learn, it is a real fighters gym with massive accomplishments run by the best.

The most cringe-worthy gym, which is suitable for a maximum of a week for beginners, even if you spend 1 year there - you will spar only using touches to the stomach, if you want to go to the bag - they will not let you do this - because you came to training and thus a year has passed and nothing has changed.

Horrible gym, because they don't care about the trainees. They just show basic exercises for beginners, sparring is all just markings on the stomach and nothing more. In any gym in my country the most beginner trains much harder than here. They never talk to the trainees, it's their unspoken rule, you can notice it almost immediately. Wasted my time and money. Cringe gym, nothing to do there.

This is my second time in the past year and a half training at this gym. I have worked with several trainers doing 1 on 1 sessions and I have loved all of them! Each trainer has unique teaching styles and so I enjoy learning different things from each trainer and you can also schedule a session on their new app with a trainer you like to keep working with them consistently.I saw some negative review mostly about the gym being crowed or group classes not having enough correction given or being not advanced enough but Group classes are exactly that …“group classes” if people want personalized attention or more advanced training I think it is worth investing in a personal training session and getting more personalized attention. Group classes are not meant to be the same as a personal training session and so the expectation that you will be corrected every second or given advanced things to do in a group setting is a bit unrealistic . Group classes can get busy yes but you still get a good workout, can practice your own skills and techniques and so many comments I saw seemed quite unfair. There are definitely options for people who feel they are more advanced and so This gym is good for beginners, intermediate and advanced!Great and fun place to train and the owner is very friendly!!

I’ve been training Muay Thai for 2 years back home and decided to spontaneously to take a personal class at the gym. It was so good that I took two more classe the next days all with Michael. He’s a nice guy and i learnt a ton of things during this time.In general, the whole atmosphere is really welcoming and you see complete beginners to guys who regularly fight training here at the same time.

Great training although the gym was crowded we could have excellent training sessions!! Focus isMore on sparring and technique than pad work, which was for me perfect. And cheaper than all other gym. The only thing it is a bit impersonal, not a lot of human contact with the kruus. I will go again should we come back to Samui.

This place is absolute 🔥. Ralph the owner simply can’t do enough for you. He will give you advice on anything. The 1 to 1 are excellent I’d strongly advise doing them. (It’s not expensive) I had bin/lek and wave all top guys. Now there two classes a day. From 7 am until 9am. One class is for beginners and intermediate, and the other is for advanced/fighters. They are conditioning classes. Now if you go there and you’ve been doing Muay Thai ask to go into the advance class. I’ve seen people having a bit of a moan on here when all you have to do is move class. The same applies for the classes in the evening. Advance class is 4-6 and beginners 5-7. You’re training with people at the top of their game. If you want to fight, or simply get fit and learn a few things on your journey this place is for you. I can’t praise the guys enough for how much they taught me to bring home and use. Highly highly recommend 🙏

Spent a week training here, loved every minute of it. I did a PT w Kru Ching first day and he was very welcoming, experienced and knowledgeable, I was in safe hands! All the trainers were amazing, friendly and classes were well structured. There’s a good sign-in system and an amazing fight gear store. I would have loved to stay longer but I’ll be back. Thanks Lamai MT 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️

I can’t recommend this gym enough! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and positivity. The coaches here are truly incredible—highly skilled, patient, and deeply passionate about Muay Thai. They take the time to correct your technique, push you to be your best, and motivate you every step of the way.The classes are not only challenging but also so much fun. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced fighter, there’s something for everyone. The environment is super supportive, and the sense of community is amazing—everyone encourages each other to improve and succeed.A huge thank you to the staff and coaches for creating such an authentic and welcoming space to train and learn. If you’re looking to dive into Muay Thai or level up your skills, this is the place to be. Highly recommend!

We had an unreal experience here, both as complete beginners with zero fighting experience. We booked a private one hour session for the two of us. Our instructor, Bin, taught us the basics, from punching and jabbing, to kicking. The session was hard work but we were given regular pauses for water and to catch our breath. Bin was excellent - really patient and explained things well.Whilst I have possibly never worked so hard in my life, I felt like I learnt so much and am excited to come back and join in a group session! My boyfriend also loved it.

Good workout and technical drills, but usually too many people in the group classes, so only 2 rounds on the pads. The younger trainers usually came around the pair drills and corrected technique, but a few of the older ones seemed indifferent, so the atmosphere wasn't what it could be.
